What type of Mah Jongg is played?
American Mah Jongg using the 2027 National Mah Jongg League card.
Do I need to bring my own Mah Jongg set?
No. Tiles are provided onboard. You're welcome to bring your own set if you'd like to play before the cruise, such as at your hotel, but it isn't necessary for the cruise itself.
Can I travel alone?
Absolutely. Whether you travel solo or with your regular Mah Jongg group, Emerald will arrange tables of four so everyone has people to play with.
How much Mah Jongg is played each day?
Every day is different. There will be hosted evening play every night, plus additional opportunities while the ship is sailing. When the ship is in port, you're always welcome to stay onboard and play if you prefer.
Will there be instruction for different skill levels?
Yes. Beginner, casual, and experienced players will be grouped by experience so everyone feels comfortable.
Will there be tournaments?
Yes. Optional mini-tournaments, prizes, and awards will be offered during the cruise.
How many Mah Jongg hosts will be onboard?
Four dedicated Mah Jongg facilitators will work alongside the ship's crew to coordinate the program.
Do I have to participate every day?
No. Participation is completely optional. You can play as much—or as little—as you like while enjoying the destinations and everything the ship has to offer.
What makes this cruise different?
Everyone onboard is there because they share two passions: exploring Europe and playing American Mah Jongg. It's a wonderful opportunity to meet new friends while cruising one of Europe's most beautiful rivers. This specialty focus is what makes these sailings unique.
